WillSpeak Kids

01 / THE BACKGROUND

Context

WillSpeak Kids is an interactive English-learning app for children that I am developing alongside WillSpeak English. It is built with React Native (Expo) and TypeScript, and brings lesson content, interactive activities, and audio and visual assets together in a mobile learning experience.

Who it is for

Young English learners, with parents and teachers supporting their practice.

The challenge

Young learners need short, clear, and playful activities, while the product needs structured content and dependable behavior that can be checked every time it changes.

Goals

• Give children short, interactive practice with clear audio and visual support.
• Structure lessons and activities so content can grow without rewriting the app.
• Keep activity behavior reliable through automated and regression testing.

What I brought to the project

04 / THE THINKING

Approach & process

I define each activity’s learning purpose and logic, write implementation specifications, and build through an AI-assisted workflow. I then review the implementation against the specification, test it, and use Jest-based automated tests and regression checks to keep existing activities working as the app grows.

Key decisions

Reflection & next steps

Writing precise specifications and testing each change have become as important as the activity design itself; together they keep a children’s product predictable as it grows.
